Love is in the air at Drayton Manor Zoo
Love is in the air at Drayton Manor Zoo. Every day is Valentine’s Day at Drayton Manor as the zoo has seen a current surge in baby numbers due to the park’s successful breeding programme. The recent baby boom includes Reindeers, Brazilian Tapir, Meerkats, Common Marmosets, Red-handed Tamarins, and Cotton-Top Tamarins, with the potential for more as other animals, such as Crown Cranes and Lemur settle into their love nests in time for the romantic day. A year on from last Valentine’s Day has seen the zoo increase in size, suggesting it is not just humans that like a bit of romance!
Joyce Roberts, Zoo Manager at Drayton Manor Park & Zoo, said: “We are delighted with the success of our breeding programme and to see so many new arrivals at the zoo. The team is certainly being kept busy at the moment!” Drayton Manor Zoo is part of an international breeding programme and it is a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria, ensuring that the zoo maintains the highest standards of care and promotes good breeding practices. This means that all of the animals at Drayton Manor Zoo are available for stud and will therefore be around for the next generation to enjoy.
Visitors can see over 100 species of animals at Drayton Manor when the park opens for half term holidays on Friday 15th February. The main season opens to the public a month later on Friday 15th March.
