At The Movies
Director: Klay Hall
Cast: Teri Hatcher, John Cleese, Dane Cook
Coming from the studios that made “Cars” in a bid to recreate the success of the film, this time around, the protagonist in this film is a plane that spends his day on a farm. His dream is to become a racing plane.
There is some brilliant C.G.I throughout the film and there are some amazing set pieces but isn’t quite up there with all other Disney films that have been released so far. This was originally planned to be a straight to DVD film and it shows. Despite there being some brilliant C.G.I at times, the film looks very cheaply made overall.
“Planes” is very poorly written. There are some funny moments that children and adults alike will appreciate. Some of the jokes, however, have been rehashed. The characters are very similar to characters used in “Cars” and it’s hard to relate to them.
“Planes” lacks a little ambition. It comes across a little tired very much a rip-off of other films. This is a sweet little film aimed at a much younger audience.
2 Guns ★★★
Director: Baltasar Kormákur
Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Denzel Washington, Paula Patton, Bill Paxton, James Marsden
A DEA agent and a Navy officer find themselves on the run after a job goes wrong. Both believe the other to be a real criminal. The pair go rogue and join forces to take down the real criminal.
“2 Guns” is a buddy cop film with plenty of action. There are lots of explosions and shooting throughout the film. There are also plenty of twists and turns. However it is very predictable despite this and there are a number of flaws.
With a top cast who share great chemistry and have a lot of presence on screen. There are some funny moments and one liners. The characters lack much development and there is no reason to care about them. However, “2 Guns” is a well written film with some great acting.
This is pure entertainment.
